Shiatsu
Service Description
Shiatsu massage is a traditional Japanese bodywork therapy that involves applying pressure to specific points on the body using fingers, thumbs, palms, and sometimes elbows or knees. Rooted in principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Shiatsu aims to balance the body's energy flow, known as "qi" or "chi," and promote overall health and relaxation. A distinctive feature of Shiatsu is that it is performed fully clothed, typically on a mat or futon on the floor, although it can also be done on a massage table. The client wears comfortable, loose-fitting clothing to allow for ease of movement and access to pressure points. Unlike oil-based massages, no lotions or oils are used. Shiatsu techniques may include gentle stretching, joint manipulation, and rhythmic pressure, with a focus on meridians—energy pathways in the body. It's known for its calming, grounding effects and is often used to relieve stress, tension, fatigue, and musculoskeletal issues.
